London, England
London, United Kingdom September 2025 Back to London Here for a short visit before spreading our wings around the UK and Scotland. Thanks, London for picking the exact days we were in London to stage one of your most disruptive strikes ever! A striking tube didnt stop us though, just made getting around a little more time consuming and served to line the pockets of the taxi and uber drivers who were most happy to pick up the slack.

Brighton, England
Brighton, United Kingdom February, 2024 Beloved Brighton A little day trip to Brighton on a not so bright day. Despite the blustery day, what a lovely part of the country! I look forward to exploring the little villages in Sussex next time I’m in the neighbourhood. The aptly named Tidy Street. Neither rain nor wind will keep this little one off the pebble beach! Hamish Black’s bronze “Afloat” stands against a roiling sea.

Oxford, England
Oxford, United Kingdom September, 2025 Opulent Oxford We stopped in Oxford mostly to see the Bodleian Library (only a library gets to put three vowels in a row in its name). Sadly It didn’t occur to us that tickets would be in such high demand on a rainy Thursday…Maybe because it was a convocation day and people were sneaking out of the ceremony, or maybe because it’s one of the most famous libraries in the world. Next time… But we still found some things to do in Oxford in the rain!

The Cotswolds, England
The Cotswolds, United Kingdom September, 2025 Charming Cotswolds First time in the Cotswolds with Painswick as our base! Such a lovely collection of quaint villages, fluffy sheep and mud! I’d love to come back…in drier season. Who knew how prophetic the door knocker on our little cottage would be…could have used a pair of these! We started our village explorations in Bourton-on-the-Water. Such a pretty town along the Windrush River.

York, England
York, United Kingdom September, 2025 Yearning for York York was the town that everyone seemed to want for themselves. The Romans got here first in 71AD (as they were wont to do in those days), taking cities for the ever expanding empire. This location proved to be a bit of a poor choice and by 410, Rome pulled out. The empire was running out of money and had bigger fish to fry on the continent. Maintaining a hold on Britain (at a distance separated by water) was expensive.

The Lake District, England
The Lake District, United Kingdom September, 2025 Lounging in the Lakes While I loved the Costwolds’ gentleness and rolling hills, the Lake District really drew me in with its mountains, ruggedness and dramatic vistas. Maybe the Herdies also had something to do with it… What? More sheep?! Dry stone walls are all over the UK (estimates are that they run a distance of 180,000-200,000 miles). These are definitely not a “seen one, seen ‘em all” kind of thing.
