Panoramic Plitvice Lakes
Another gorgeous day hiking among waterfalls, this time at the more famous Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and Croatia's first national park (1949). Sixteen large and small lakes are connected by tons of waterfalls all explorable on wooden boardwalks. It was Croatia's first national park, established in 1949, and is one of the first natural sites to be put on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1979 because its travertine waterfall barriers are considered the be the finest example on earth!
Day 8!
This is one of the four lower lakes that sit in the canyon section of the park, with the water falling over the wide travertine barrier.

The calm of a lower lake against the limestone is so serene.

The upper lakes drops look completely different from those in the canyon below. These upper falls show a wide curtain of water spilling over the mossy travertine.
The boardwalks take us everywhere without damaging the ecosystem.

Viewed from the top, this boardwalk runs right along the travertine barrier between Milanovac and Gavanovac lakes.

Even though we walked along man-made boardwalks, it still felt very much in nature.

Just a small portion of this magnificent park.
